After the drywall texture has been completely remove, we can now see the actual condition of the ceiling.  We have found this to be an important part of any repair project.  The ceiling texture can hide many things and now we will be able to see the problems.  After seeing the problems, we will be able to determine an appropriate solution.

After seeing many roofs, we have come to know that not every roof will need the same amount of work.  Some roofs may have minor cracks to fill, but others will need quite a bit more work.  There can also be water damage in some areas that we were not able to see with the popcorn in place.  Every condition that we encounter will need to be evaluated and repaired before we move to the final stage in the process.  The goal in this step is to find all of the damaged area and provide a correction at all damaged or uneven areas in order to proceed to the final step.

Repairing What the Texture Was Hiding

The seams in the ceiling drywall are one of the biggest problem areas that are revealed when the popcorn is gone.  We have found that the texture was able to hide any uneven or non-finished areas.  These areas will all need to be corrected, otherwise they will stand out after the final paint is applied. 

Any cracks in the drywall will also need to be identified and a solution will need to be applied.  Simply covering the cracks with paint is not a solution we can live with.  We will seal the cracks with caulk and make sure the surface is even.  We will also identify popped screws or nails and put them back into place to ensure the final surface is clean.

We also find that previous repairs in the ceiling can be a problem too.  With a house of this age, there could have been many problems in the existing ceiling that might have had to be addressed over the years.  With the popcorn gone, all of those problems will become revealed again.  We will take the time to fix those areas before moving forward.

Any other damaged drywall will also need to be prepared.  These areas must be cleaned and prepped so they do not stand out after the new paint is installed.  If we find any source of water, we will make sure that is addressed also.

Creating a Better Surface

All of these repairs will need to be completed before the ceiling finishing work begins.  Depending on what is found during the investigation, this work could include repairing cracks, filling holes, taping and finishing seams, and re-addressing previous cracks.  We will then use joint compound and plaster to create a flat surface before paintaing.

The textured area was a heavy finish for the ceiling.  We will be using a lighter texture to create the finished look.  This surface will provide a much cleaner look than before.  This stage also gives us an opportunity to inspect the ceiling.  Before proceeding with the paint, we will fix any problems we see there.

After we take the time to repair all of the problems that we find, the ceiling is finally ready for it's final stage in the process.  Ceiling Finishing and Painting will take the repaired surface and provide the final transformation in the process.  This is where the owner finally receives what they have been wanting for years.
